@Nai – those guys were pretty cool. It’s never a bad idea to accept booze from complete strangers…

Sure, we were lucky to find a decent group of people, but even so, it wouldn’t have been a good idea for me to fight. I would have put you in unnecessary danger, since you aren’t as trained as I am. Good martial artists need to have the wisdom to pick their battles and that definitely wasn’t one of them!

I agree that flight was the best action, because we probably wouldn’t have been able to take down two guys. We also met some pretty great people. We were very lucky actually, so I don’t know if in a different situation it would have worked out that well. I guess just be smart. Run to large groups, try and get help, run, and if all else fails – scream, kick, yell, anything to distract or get attention.

One of the important things in your hypothetical situation is that you could be traveling with a wife and children. EVEN IF, you could defend yourself, attackers could distract you, then hurt your family.

Unfortunately, I find that a frightening number of guys trained in fighting are a little too willing to hit anything/everything that moves. Sometimes, that’s the worst course of action!

Wow. That is quite the story. You certainly acted wisely in that situation, yes.

I really don’t know a lot about fighting, but I’m a very strong man (5′9″, about 200 pounds and very muscular) and one thing I know is that I wouldn’t want someone like me to hit “me”.

So I’d have done the same thing, if I could get away, I would.
